Description
The ZIS‑6 was the three‑axle variant of the ZIS‑5, built to give the Red Army a heavier, more stable platform than its lighter GAZ trucks. It kept the same straightforward cab and engine but stretched the frame and added a second rear axle, turning it into a true heavy‑duty hauler. In the early war years it was one of the few Soviet trucks capable of carrying oversized loads, towing heavier equipment, and handling rough roads with a full payload.
Because of that extra capacity, the ZIS‑6 was assigned to the jobs a normal 4×2 truck couldn’t handle. It carried bridging gear, pontoon sections, large ammunition crates, fuel drums, and engineering equipment; it served as the base for mobile workshops, radio vans, and command bodies; and it was the original chassis for the first BM‑13 Katyusha rocket launchers. It also handled long‑range supply runs between railheads and front‑line depots, where the extra axle meant fewer breakdowns and better traction on bad roads.
For a gamer or modeler, that importance makes the ZIS‑6 a standout piece. It unlocks scenarios and diorama elements that smaller trucks can’t—Katyusha batteries, engineering convoys, heavy resupply, or mobile workshops. It also anchors early‑war Soviet forces with a sense of authenticity: A ZIS‑6 isn’t just another cargo truck; it’s a narrative centerpiece that instantly communicates scale, capability, and the gritty logistics behind Soviet operations.
Please Note: Models are supplied in gray resin, cleaned, unpainted and with external supports removed. Decals not included. There may be small supports or “nubs” remaining in places like the tracks. These are best removed with a sharp knife. No sanding or filing is necessary (or recommended)!
Some assembly may be required–usually only wheels or tracks. Superglue works great, especially for small parts and repairs. For wheels, I recommend a 5-minute epoxy, but superglue works here, too.
