French Army of Africa
Although focused on the Army of Africa and the Foreign Legion, our range of French Colonials includes the wide variety of French colonial forces worldwide. Truly the widest collection of French Colonial forces anywhere.
The Foreign Legion formed only a small part of the Army of Africa, also known as the XIX Army Corps. Our ranges include the mounted units and native troops that fought with them on every campaign.
While the Army owned the XIX Corps, the Ministry of the Marine managed other overseas colonies. We have the forces of La Marine as well. After 1900, these troops came under the control of the Army and were known as La Coloniale.
There are also sailors–both on board ship and in landing parties–and Chasseur Alpins, who assisted the Legion in the pacification of Morocco.
Their opponents in Morocco and North Africa can be found in the North Africa section of the catalog.
