Berbers

North African tribes that inhabited Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. The Berbers are an ancient people that lived in this area from at least the time of the Romans. With the Arab conquest, many retreated into the mountains of Algeria and Morocco where, in the 19th century, they were still fiercely independent.
