Don Cossack-style cossacks with cap and short tunic.
This style of uniform was worn in the Don, Ural, Siberian, and Orenburg cossack regiments during the conquest of Turkestan in the 1870s and the Russo-Turkish War of 1877.
Cossack units wearing this style of dress can be seen in World War I, the Revolution and Civil War and even into World War II.
Set consists of six cossacks, 3 each of the two shown.
At various times, either the front rank or the entire unit carried lances in addition to their rifles and sashlik. Lances were attached by a leather loop above the right elbow and a cup on the stirrup. The figure on the right (below) has been modified to carry a lance or a standard in his right hand (not supplied).
