Askari Miniatures teams up with Ed Teixiera of Two Hour Wargames at Tacticon 2012 this past Labor Day weekend for a series of four games using THW’s Colonial Adventures 2nd Edition and Long Rifle rule sets.
Friday night we played a scenario called The First Steppe is the Hardest. Russian infantry and sailors tried to take over a Central Asian village but were rebuffed by the native Turcomen.
Saturday we played a reprise, this time with Turcomen and Bokharans attacking the Russians in a walled city they had captured.
Left, Russian sailors move toward the center of town. They were eventually forced to retire.
Right, Russian infantry are fired upon by Bokharans and Pathans. They were forced to retreat to the house in the upper right of the photo.
The archaeologist, adventurers and their hired diggers leave the security of the fortress on a quest to find the legendary Tomb of Chaka Khan to start Saturday’s game.
After meeting with a number of adventures along the way, the intrepid crew
finds the tomb and is able to retrieve the contents. However, upon emerging from the tomb they are met with the local constabulary, who are not too pleased with the looting of their national treasures.
Although it looks like the cops have the drop on them, their aim was true and they were able to make their escape.
In the third game of the series, the Russians were defending the walls of the city they have previously captured. There were not too many troops for the defense and the natives have amassed a large force outside the walls.
Infantry lead the assault while Turcomen cavalry are ready to exploit their success. A jingal gun (left) prepared to fire.
The fortress proves too strong for the infantry and the gun. Just then, a Random Anarchist appears with a bomb and blows open the gates!
Seizing the initiative, the Turcomen charge through.
The Cossacks mount up to meet the invaders.
The Pathans have found a secret passage through the walls and are attacking the center gate tower at right.
Russian reinforcements climb the stairs to relieve the defenders and put the Pathans between two fires.
In the end, they were eliminated. The Turcomen cavalry were defeated by the Cossacks who were in turn shot out of the saddle as they emerged from the front gate.
The Russians held the fortress, but only barely.
The final adventure game had the adventurers seeking the tomb all over the board, through deserts, up mountains, and finally to this strange and almost deserted village.
The muezzin calls from the tower at the top of the village and merchants dot the almost-empty streets. There is a strange stench of decay.
The adventurers seek to engage the merchant in conversation and they are surprised to find that he is a …Zombie!!
They eventually fight them off and discover the tomb–the domed building at the center rear of the village. There is one final challenge as they fight off giant Mummies before being chased by angry mobs all the way back to the fort.
